PT Bumi Konawe Minerina once again reaffirmed its commitment towards transparency, operational legality, and support for local communities in an official public hearing held at the Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Legislative Council Building recently.

BKM management was present at the discussion forum on land disputes in the operational area, represented by Sahid AR Site as Manager and Busran as Community Development Specialist (Comdev).

PT BKM insists that the company has received full support from the local community and the legal landowners in the mining area, as confirmed by documentation and field verification conducted directly by the local government, with the presence of the previous landowners.

“The entire land identification process was conducted publicly. As a result of this process, the disputed land was declared to be legally owned by PT BKM,” explained Sahid AR Site.

Land Acquisition Process in Accordance with Regulations and Open to the Public

PT BKM also stated that the land acquisition process was carried out in 2011 in an transparent and accountable method. This provides a strong legal and social foundation for the company’s current operational activities.

“Our land acquisition activities in 2011 were not carried out unilaterally. All stages of the process were conducted transparently and were fully supervised by government officials and community members,” added Busran.

This was also approved by the community leaders who participated in the process. They stated that the presence of PT BKM has had positive impacts, such as the absorption of local labor and the growth of new MSMEs around the company’s operational area.

Solidarity of Ring I Community: Ready to Defend

Interestingly, in the forum, there was a firm attitude from all stakeholders in the mining ring area (Ring I) who stated their readiness to “take a stand” if there were disturbances from outside parties who did not have legal or clear legal basis for their land claims.

“As residents of Ring I, we will not stand idly by if outsiders attempt to create disturbances or disrupt the investment activities that are already proceeding smoothly,” stated one resident firmly.

The company remains open to dialogue with any party seeking clarification, provided it is accompanied by evidence and good faith.

PT BKM’s commitment to building harmonious relationships with the community, maintaining operational stability, and adhering to legal and permitting requirements remains a top priority.

The presence of PT BKM is solid proof of responsible investment.

This RDP serves as a moment for the company to emphasize that the presence of investment should not be used as a source of conflict of interest, especially if it disrupts the social stability of the local community, which has long benefited greatly from the company’s presence.

“We are here not only to mine, but also to build. And we believe that only through openness, commitment, and support for the local community can we achieve equitable economic growth together,” concluded Sahid.
